What happens when we listen to birds not only as sound, but as movement, rhythm, memory, and encounter?
During their residency, dance artist Ivy Tsui and percussionist Marika Tsuchiya will explore the sonic world of birds through birdsongs, field recordings, sonograms, movement, percussion, and improvisation.
Song of Birds: Birdbath is an intimate sharing of this ongoing research. Rather than presenting a finished performance, the gathering invites audiences into a space of listening, experimentation, and exchange. The residency draws on an interest in bird recordings and related data, exploring how these materials might be translated, transformed, and embodied through artistic practice.
Come listen, watch, wander, and take a moment to bathe in the sounds of birds.
Ivy Tsui (she/her) is a Hong Kong-born, London-based dance artist working across performance, choreography, moving image, and writing. Her practice explores dance as an embodied way of understanding memory, time, and identity. Alongside her exploration of dance and archives, she has developed improvisational collaborations with musicians, emphasising an equal and dynamic relationship between sound and movement.
Marika Tsuchiya is a percussionist who wanders through the sound world with curiosity. Grounded in her training in orchestral and solo percussion, her practice unfolds through layered sonic textures, bringing together soundscapes, instruments, and objects that carry memories and emotions.
